Our group's goal is to anonymously donate, one to three times a year, a dresser/hamper/laundry basket filled with clothing and basic necessities for families who are in need and who have babies or young children. Donations are received from the Congregation of new or gently used clothing, hand knit or crocheted items. A Dresser Ministry collection for cash donations is taken at the end of Sunday service, every few months. Donated dressers are refinished by members of the group. A lot of time is spent in sorting, collecting, and finding the right fit for the families identified as needing our help.
Update:
March 2009 was quite a busy month for us! The Dresser Ministry provided a night table, book case & dresser filled with clothing, bedding and toys for a single mom and 3 children, ages 7,8 & 9 from cayuga. Another family - a single mom and 2 children, ages 5 and 21 months from Caledonia was given a dresser filled with clothing, diapers, bedding and toys. Both families are clients of the Caledonia Food Bank. We also provided the Haldimand Pregnancy Care Center, Caledonia with a baby hamper filled with new and gently used baby clothing. Blankets, diapers etc. for a baby girl born March 17, 2009. Included in each donation is a card from our group on behalf of Grace United Church. The cards are usually made by Grace's Card Group.
We recently reviewed and revised our Group's goals as follows: "To donate at least 3 times per year, a dresser or hamper filled with clothing and basic necessities to a child or family in need" In 2008 a total of 17 children were helped by our group.
Your support for the Dress Ministry is appreciated. The free-will collection at the conclusion of Church Service on March 8th, 2009 was $129.48. Your kind donations of dressers are most appreciated and almost always needed. Please keep in mind we can use zipper clear plastic bags, i.e. bags that comforter or mattress covers come in.
We appreciate donations of new items - baby sleepers, blankets, onesies, diapers any children's clothing, especially boy's clothing size 7 and up. Winter outerwear is in constant need during the late fall. Please consider donating to our group when your child outgrows their snow suit or jacket.
Thank you to the Promise Land children who willingly participate in assisting with collection. We are also thankful for the willing "Strong Arms" who pick up and move dressers.
Our meetings are the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the library. New Members are most welcome! Inquiries about meetings or donations? Please call Mary Lee Webb - 905-765-2077
June 2009 Update: The Dresser Ministry free will collection last Sunday was $135.85. We are thankful for your continuing support.
