GENERAL COUNCIL NOTES, NOVEMBER 20, 2011

Under Old Business, Remit #4 and 5 presented by The United Church of Canada Council regarding proposed changes to the Basis of Union document were discussed. Information gathered will be conveyed to them.  Remit #6 (available on The United Church of Canada website) must be examined by the whole congregation in the coming months.
Also, a draft of the In Memoriam Policy was reviewed.  A second draft will be reviewed at the January meeting.  A contract from Douglas L. Plank, C.A. was reviewed by Council and signed by the Chair.

     Committee Reports:
Christian Development reported on the Messy Church workshop.  It is hoped that our first venture into Messy Church events will occur in the spring.  A motion was passed to fund the attendance of Cathy Oldfield and Robin Kittle at a special youth programme at Five Oaks.
Mission & Service – October’s giving’s to Local Missions totaled $632 (Y.T.D. $6324); donations to Toronto totaled $979 (Y.T.D. $14,831)
Stewards reported that Hunsinger Electrical had the lighting in the sanctuary assessed.  They have suggested increasing the number of pot lights over the choir, organ and pulpit areas and using higher wattage lights in the current globes.
Bibles will be purchased for Sunday School and Confirmation classes.
Treasurer’s Report – Y.T.D. Revenue - $116,670.34; Y.T.D. Expenses - $138,479.78; Y.T.D. Deficit – ($21,809.44)
U.C.W. – Laurie Bailey spoke at the last meeting about Warm Up Haldimand, an organization that knits squares and blankets for the homeless.
Worship and Music reported that the organization of the Telephone Tree has been updated.
     New Business:
In January, 2012 the contact information of the current Church Directory will be updated.
The Annual Meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, January 29, 2012.  Pot Luck finger food is requested.
